The Omicron Phi Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. is the East Point, Georgia chapter for college alumni members of the fraternity. The chapter conducts several community service projects throughout each year including the Alpha Academy, forums on teen pregnancy prevention, encouraging youth to finish high school and to pursue a college education, supporting voter awareness and registration drives, cancer awareness activities, and other activities to benefit the surrounding area. Founded in 1987, the Omicron Phi Lambda chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. will celebrate its 25th anniversary this year.
This project was one of a few “pro bono” projects that I’ve done as a way to give back to the community. As a member of the organization where I serve on the board, I was well aware of the goals and responsibilities that the chapter upheld, and so the job was an easy one. The goal for the project was to share information about the programs and service conducted by the chapter, provide information to the members, and provide contact information for those willing to help in any of our service activities.
I began the project with the end in mind; I’d be using WordPress as the CMS for the site, so as I finished the design work and prepared to move into development, the workflow was a little different than if I were simply coding a static site. The baseline was done in HTML5 and once transition into the WordPress template file system was complete and tested, the site was ready for launch. The rest of the board was pleased with the results and the opportunities to share the foundation’s mission with others through the site.
